Ian Tully: Future Farming the Mars Project
Ian Tully is an artist who lives in Moulamein in the border region between New South Wales and Victoria.
This exhibition stems from his upbringing on the family farm and includes sculptures, photographs and video works.
The exhibition explores farming, conflicts and issues in environmental degradation and the all-consuming climate change we are experiencing.
The resourcefulness and creativity of the farmer is a pervasive theme in this work. Could the next farming frontier be Mars?

Renewable Energy Art Award Touring Exhibition
Ten artists across the Loddon Mallee region have created works of art inspired by their vision of a renewable energy future.
Georgia MacGuire from Central Goldfields is one of the exhibiting artists.

Did you know the most popular genre of literature in Australia today is Rural Romance?
Our gallery has embraced this topic and in an exhibition curated by our gallery staff, we explore the many facets of L O V E.
Themes explored include love of nature, love of food, love between people, love of animals and classical notions of love.
Artworks in this exhibition are drawn from the gallery’s collection and neighbouring public galleries.

The Many Storey Treehouse Exhibition: Celebrating Terry Denton’s illustrations for the phenomenal Treehouse series by Andy Griffiths & Terry Denton
An exhibition of Terry Denton’s original illustrations, sketches and layouts showing the development of crazy ideas, characters and stories for The Treehouse series developed with author, Andy Griffiths.
22 AUGUST – 11 OCTOBER
A suite of ten etchings by Jeff Makin
Australia Felix is the title for the suite of ten etchings by Jeff Makin, inspired by the Australian landscape. Jeff and Elizabeth Makin generously donated an edition of this suite of etchings to Central Goldfields Art Gallery in 2019 through the Australian Government’s Cultural Gifts Programme and they will be presented for the first time at the gallery in this exhibition.
In 2019, Jeff Makin explored the local landscape and was drawn to the Grand Duke Mine in Timor. His subsequent painting has been acquired by Central Goldfields Art Gallery and will also be on public display for the first time as part of this exhibition.

The Red case: myths & rituals, is filled with artworks that draw upon beliefs and symbols from different countries around the world including India, China, Africa and Australia.
The Yellow case: form, space & design, presents a mixture of concepts that show great humour and originality.
All of the artwork in these cases can be handled and will be accessible at various venues throughout the shire.

VCE Art & Design Exhibition
The VCE Art & Design exhibition showcases the artwork of graduating secondary school students from Central Goldfields Shire.
This eagerly anticipated annual exhibition unearths the diverse artistic talent of the Central Goldfields community.
Central Goldfields Shire and Avoca residents are welcome to submit entries for this exhibition.
Join us to vote for the popular People’s Choice Award with the winner receiving a prize.

Central Goldfields Art Gallery collection
School holiday programme
Our school holiday programmes are fun, hands-on and cost only $2 per child to attend.
Children explore the current exhibition and then enjoy a hands-on art activity.
Sessions are held each Wednesday during terms 1, 2 and 3 holidays and in the fourth week of school holidays in January:
• 10.30am – 11.30am 5 – 8 year olds
• 1.30pm – 2.30pm 9 – 12 year olds

In addition to our regular calendar exhibitions, pop-up exhibitions, featuring the works of artists residing in the Central Goldfields region, will pop-up throughout the year.
Central Goldfields Art Gallery is situated in the picturesque old fire station, built in 1861.
The gallery’s changing exhibition programme showcases local and regional artists, and includes diverse touring exhibitions.
Community engagement is supported with an annual community art and craft exhibition and local schools VCE art and design exhibition.
A selection of artwork from the gallery collection is exhibited in the Casey Room.
Included are several donations of paintings and sculptures by Arthur Boyd, Ray Crooke and Dean Bowen.
