Central Goldfields Shire Council is a member of the Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance (CVGA), which is working in partnership with 12 local councils in our region and the Victorian Government to roll out a network of public EV charging infrastructure.

The CVGA received funding under the State Government's stimulus package to address the Electric Vehicle charging station gaps identified in its Charging the Regions Case Study project

The funding is fast tracking investment in key towns, including Maryborough, to ensure there is a dense network of charging stations in the Loddon Campaspe and Mallee region. It is expected that 20-24 chargers will be built across 17 different sites across the region, encouraging visitors to explore beyond the major highway network.

Council officers liaised with the CVGA to identify a preferred site to meet the criteria of relatively easy connection to a council-managed electricity supply, as well as available parking and public visibility. In order to maximise the flow-on benefits to the local tourism industry, a site was chosen close to the Community Hub and Maryborough Railway Station.

With the Visitor Information Centre to be relocated to the Station building, travellers stopping to charge their batteries will be encouraged to come into the station for a coffee and discover what else is on offer in Central Goldfields Shire.

The location’s proximity to the Nolan Street offices will also facilitate an uptake of electric vehicles within Council’s fleet and will be highly visible to members of the community visiting the Hub, playground and Station Domain area.

The EV Charging Station was officially opened for us in February, 2021.
