The first stage of the Maryborough Railway Station activation project is now complete with the relocation of the Central Goldfields Visitor Information Centre and the opening of the Co-Working Space in March, 2021.

The project has seen one of the Shire's most historically significant local buildings be given a new lease on life.

The Maryborough Railway Station Activation Project is one of Council’s Priority Projects and was also identified as a key project in both the Economic Development and Tourism and Events Strategies.

The overall vision is to see the station building become a hub of activity that nurtures local small businesses and creative enterprises while providing a welcoming entry point to visitors to the Central Goldfields Shire.

With further funding, Council hopes to develop a long-term master plan for the precinct.

The project has been made possible thanks to $50,000 in funding from the State Government’s Stronger Regional Communities Program.

Council has also contributed $67,500 to the project and the Committee for Maryborough have made an in-kind contribution of $10,000 for mentoring of start-ups/small businesses by experienced business operators who are Committee for Maryborough members.

Central Goldfields Visitor Information Centre

With a larger floorplan, expanded car parking – including capacity for caravans – as well as an existing on-site café – the Station will offer visitors to our Shire an impressive first impression of our region.

The Visitor Information Centre is located in the space next to The Railway Café (south side of the Railway Station building).

The Central Goldfields Visitor Information Centre is open seven days a week, 9am to 5pm (except Good Friday and Christmas Day).

Central Goldfields Co-Working Space

The new Central Goldfields Co-Working Space provides business start-ups, community groups or those wanting to work away from home a space to work.

Located in the north side of the Station building, the Space comes fully equipped with a meeting table, high speed internet, printing/photocopying/scanning, 3D printing, video conferencing, secure lockers and a kitchenette.

The Co-Working Space offers users the flexibility of hiring a desk or co-working space for a day or several days across a defined period.

To find out more about the Co-Working Space and if you are interested in using it as a space to work contact Council’s Economic Development Officer Brian Gould on 0419 762 793 or email brian.gould@cgoldshire.vic.gov.au
