Recreation and Open Space Strategy

Central Goldfields Shire Council is developing the Central Goldfields Recreation and Open Space Strategy 2020–2029.  The strategy is being developed through funding support from Sport and Recreation Victoria’s Community Sports Infrastructure Fund Recreation Planning Grant.

The Strategy will guide Council and the community in the provision of, investment in and delivery of open space, sport and active recreation spaces, facilities, services and opportunities in the Central Goldfields Shire.  The strategy will aim to increase the participation of people living in the Shire in sport, recreation and physical activity.

There are a number of different ways you can be involved, including:

Pop-up youth hub in Maryborough

An alliance of Central Goldfields youth services has united to develop and deliver a pop-up youth hub in the Shire from December this year.

Implementing a collective impact approach, Go Goldfields is leading the project through Council.  Together, the partnership has been able to raise funds for the pilot, secure a building and engage consultants to bring this innovative vision to realisation in Maryborough Victoria.

The local organisations leading the partnership are Central Goldfields Shire Council, Youth Support and Advocacy Service (YSAS), Anglicare, and Maryborough District Hospital Service (MDHS), with many other services aligned.

The pop-up will trial an integrated service model that will be accessed by young people across the Central Goldfields Shire.

The alliance intends that this six-month trial will inform a business plan for a permanent and co-designed youth facility that combines an integrated service model with a recreational youth space for the Shire.

A community launch will take place next Thursday 24 October from 11am to midday at the Maryborough Town Hall.  Go Goldfields and partners are inviting potential front-line youth service providers, interested community members, and young people to come and find out more about this innovative initiative.

Council is committed to supporting the pop-up and has made the Maryborough Town Hall available for the test period.  A youth-focused Pop-Up Hub Open Week will kick it all off when doors open in December this year.

Are you fire ready?

This time of year is all about preparing your property for the fire season.

No matter where you live in Central Goldfields Shire – whether you’re in a town or on a farm – your property is likely to be at high to extreme bush or grass fire risk.

Take the time to increase your understanding of the fire risk where you live, prepare your property, and talk to your loved ones about what you’ll do to stay safe from fire.

Residents should also prepare their properties by:

  • Clearing undergrowth and fallen branches
  • Moving firewood away from the house
  • Cleaning leaves from gutters
  • Ensuring that grass is cut

Learn more about how to effectively prepare your property here: www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare

Once the Fire Danger Period has commenced for the North Central Fire District, there will be restrictions as to what you can and can't do.
