Festive cheer

The Spirit of Christmas has arrived in the Central Goldfields with the installation of Christmas decorations across the Shire.

New drinking fountain

Locals and visitors can now keep hydrated with a new drinking fountain installed at Lake Victoria, Maryborough.

The Central Highlands Water Choose Tap drinking fountain, complete with bowl feature for your furry friends, was made possible with funding from the Victorian Government’s Building Works package.

Wayfinding signage

Identified as a priority through community feedback during the development of the Community Township Plan for Dunolly and district - two wayfinding signs have recently been installed in Dunolly (Broadway and Gordon Gardens).

The signs aim to help visitors find their way around the township. They include motivation copy, maps highlighting attractions and facilities as well as information about various points of interest.

The project was funded through the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

PROJECT COMPLETE

Get your skates on!

The new Skate and Scooter Park in Maryborough is ready for use!

The new Skate and Scooter Park is located at the Adventure Playground at Princes Park, Maryborough.

The project was delivered by Grind Projects, who have years of experience and have a high industry experience in the design and construction of skate parks.

The project is jointly funded by the Victorian Government through the Sports Recreation Victoria – Local Sports Infrastructure Fund - Community Bank Avoca, Maryborough and St Arnaud (in partnership with the Maryborough Lions Club) and Council.

Signage and landscaping works are still to be carried out. An official opening will be held in the new year.

PREPARE YOUR PROPERTY

Free Green Waste

We’re offering free green waste disposal to encourage residents to prepare their properties for the upcoming fire season.

Free green waste drop off is available to residents at the Carisbrook, Talbot and Dunolly transfer stations from Saturday 3 December to Sunday 18 December.

To find out how to prepare your property for fire visit www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare

OUTDOOR POOL SEASON

The Dunolly and Talbot outdoor swimming pools will open, with free entry, for the outdoor pool season from Saturday 3 December until Monday 13 March, 2023.

The Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre will extend its opening hours and remain open until 7pm on weekends and public holidays. Weekday opening hours will remain as normal. They will also offer reduced fees for casual entry during the outdoor pool season. Season passes will remain as normal.

Thanks to the Victorian Government’s FReeZa program, free single-entry pool passes to the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre indoor pool will be provided to youth under the ages of 25. The vouchers are being distributed via our local schools this week. Vouchers will also be available at Council’s Customer Service Centre.

Unfortunately, as announced in July this year, the heritage-listed Maryborough Outdoor Pool won’t be opening this summer.

To ensure our local community and visitors to our Shire still have access to aquatic facilities during the summer, Council has worked closely with Unified Leisure to implement a range of swimming options for the community:

INFRASTRUCTURE UPDATES

Footpath projects

445 metres of new footpaths will be constructed in Carisbrook, Talbot, Dunolly during the 2022/2023 financial year. A further 660 metres of renewed footpath (replacement footpath) will be constructed in Maryborough.

The projects will be delivered as part of the 2022-2023 Council Budget and have been developed from the recommended actions of the Walking and Cycling Strategy 2017 – 2026.

The new footpath locations include:

Carisbrook:  Urquhart Street from McLachlan Street to McNeill Street – 120 metres

Dunolly: Broadway from Tweeddale Street to Daly Street – 125 metres

Talbot: Ballarat Street North from Ohara to King Street (east side) – 200 metres

The renewed footpath project locations in Maryborough include Primrose Street – 330 metres and Porter Avenue – 330 metres.

Mowing update

As one of the wettest years on record in Victoria, the saturated ground conditions have made it difficult for Council to keep on top of growth along our roadsides and reserves.

For Council to manage the growth along our roadsides and reserves, over the coming weeks we’ll be using internal and external contractor crews.

Last week there was a last-minute change to our roadside slashing program with work starting in Dunolly instead of Carisbrook.

Once mowing is complete in Dunolly, crews will move to Bealiba and surrounds and then continue south.

We’ll provide regular updates as crews move across our Shire.

ENGAGEMENT WRAP UP

Talbot Walk and Talk

Thank you to those who attended the Walk & Talk event of Talbot Futures Project last week (23/11) and provided input to the project team.

The event started with a walk along the streets of Talbot in groups of three noting down the key features of the town, the things Talbot locals value and the issues that need attention and improvement in future. The walk was followed by an interactive ‘Talk’ session with mapping exercises while having supper at the London House, Talbot.
