ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

VEC electoral structure review

Two electoral representation advisory panels will be reviewing the electoral structure of 39 local councils over the next 12 months, including the Central Goldfields Shire Council.

From October 2024, all large and small rural shire councils must be structured in the following way:

  • Unsubdivided

  • Multi-councillor wards with equal number of councillors per ward

  • Single-councillor wards

The panels will consider if Council:

  • has an appropriate number of councillors

  • should be one large unsubdivided area or subdivided into wards

Changes will apply at the next general council election in October 2024.

This is your chance to provide your views about the electoral structure that would best support representation in our community.

The VEC are scheduling two online public information sessions on:

  • 12 noon on Monday 6 February 2023

  • 6pm Tuesday 7 February 2023

Submissions open 8 February 2023. For more information and to register for the information session, visit the VEC website www.vec.vic.org.au

Seeking Information on Flood Damage to Waterways

The flood event of 2022 has been devastating in many ways and to many people. As we begin the recovery process, a dedicated Flood Recovery Program and team have been assembled by the North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) to start the process of addressing those impacts to the region’s waterways and associated infrastructure.

We are currently asking landholders within the flood zone to provide input into the assessment process. If you have noticed any major flood damage to waterways or associated infrastructure, you can report this to the CMA. This might include such things as serious erosion, major blockages, damage to riverside fencing, or extensive loss of vegetation.

To register damage please go to www.bit.ly/cmarepair, or call the CMA on 03 5448 7124 by 15 February 2023.
