Congratulations!
Cr Geoff Lovett will be presented with the Municipal Association of Victoria 20 Year Service Award at an event in Melbourne tonight (29/07).
Cr Lovett was first elected to Council in 1997. Over the past 20 years, Cr Lovett has demonstrated a clear vision for a great future for the Shire and a willingness to tackle the real issues and opportunities.
Council congratulates Cr Lovett and extends its thanks, gratitude and appreciation for his service to Council and the Central Goldfields community.
Community leaders partner to address workforce challenges
Local business and community leaders are partnering to participate in a pilot project to attract skilled migrants to the Central Goldfields Shire and specifically Maryborough.
The partnership is in response to staff and skills shortages that are affecting businesses big and small – both locally and nationally.
The pilot project – Welcome to Central Goldfields – is an opportunity to look at ways to support successful relocation to the Shire as well as advocate at all levels of government on workforce and housing needs. This project is an ambitious initiative.
It’s an exciting opportunity to create a long-term plan for relocation in the Shire to ensure the needs of our current and future workforce are met.
Local businesses will have the opportunity to tap into the program by potentially recruiting specialist staff into roles they have previously had challenges in filling.
More information about the project will be communicated in the coming months, including opportunities to play a part in welcoming new people to our community.

Community Grants
Fourteen local groups and organisations will share in more than $33,250 worth of funding, thanks to Council’s 2022-2023 Community Grants Program.
Held annually, the grants program provides community-based organisations with financial support to deliver activities, programs, small events, equipment and infrastructure.

The Youth Council will serve a term of 18 months, starting in July 2022 and finishing in December 2023.
As the Youth Council of Central Goldfields, members will have a unique opportunity to help build a vibrant youth voice in our community.
The establishment of the Youth Council is funded by the Victorian Government through the Engage! program.
Maryborough Outdoor Pool
Council will continue to advocate to State and Federal Governments for funding to rebuild the heritage-listed Maryborough 50 metre outdoor pool, with the pool to close until funding can be secured.
The decision comes after a further assessment of the pool identified the condition of the pool has declined since the previous assessment in April 2021 with the pool having reached the ‘end of life’ stage and cannot be re-opened until the pool is demolished and rebuilt.
Using the $2 million in Victorian Government funding announced in 2020 on the 50-metre pool would be a short-term patch job and would not address the increasingly declining integrity of the pool shell.
Council is working with Heritage Victoria to use the $2 million in funding to upgrade the octagonal pool, the plant room and the main entrance building - and also to ensure the heritage significance of the complex is maintained.
Council is working with Unified Community Sport and Leisure to create opportunities for local residents to access alternative pool facilities during the upcoming summer season.
Free entry at the Dunolly and Talbot outdoor pools will be offered with extended opening hours and free entry vouchers for young people (through the FReeZA and Engage program) will be offered at the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre.
Council is working closely with the schools, the Maryborough Swimming Club and the Maryborough District Triathlon Club to support them to deliver their school carnivals and events at alternative facilities.
