Gordon Gardens Master Plan project

In September, 2019 Council adopted the Gordon Gardens Master Plan.

A number of projects that were identified as part of the Gordon Gardens Master Plan were constructed at the precinct during 2019/2020 including a basketball court, bicycle/scooter pump track, outdoor fitness equipment/ shade structure and a touch-free water fountain.

The next stage of the Master Plan work will commence in April, 2021 and includes:

  • Development of the vacant block beside the Senior Citizens building into a carpark, including two disabled parking spots
  • Extension of the ramps into the Senior Citizens building
  • Walking path from the carpark to the Queen Victoria Jubilee Monument within Gordon Gardens
  • New path and new pedestrian gate into the Bowls Club from the carpark
  • New sliding gate at the Bowls Club to allow access to the Bowls Club sheds
  • Relocation of the Bowls Club’s water tanks

The works will be delivered by Council’s Operations team and will begin later this month. The project will take approximately four weeks to complete.

New outdoor dining spaces installed

New outdoor dining spaces were installed in Dunolly prior to Easter with three more to be added to the Maryborough CBD this week.

Installed by our Operations team, the temporary parklets have been made possible with funding from the State Government’s Outdoor Eating and Entertainment Package aimed at supporting the hospitality industry to rebuild from the economic and social impacts of the pandemic.

They follow the installation of a parklet outside the Daily Dose Café in High Street Maryborough in February.

A parklet is an extension of the footpath that allows additional space for pedestrians or businesses to use the street.

Council’s Economic Development team is liaising with other local food and drink businesses interested in parklets and footpath dining. Funding is available for a limited time.

Local businesses interested in getting involved can contact Council’s Economic Development Officer Brian Gould on 0419 762 793.

Derby Road enhancement project

We’re planning to beautify the medium strip along Derby Road, Maryborough – between Lean Street (Goldfields Reservoir) and Carramar Nursery.

As one of Maryborough’s main entry points, the project will make this precinct more visually pleasing to visitors and complement the medium streets located at the High Street end of Derby Road.

The project involves the planting of 30 Japanese Elm trees, with Tuscan stone filling the space between the trees. Irrigation will also be installed as part of the project.

The project, funded as part of the Council’s 2020/21 Budget, will take around two weeks to complete and is expected to be carried out in May.

Residents wanting more information about the project can visit or contact Council’s Manager Operations Amber Robinson on 5461 6702 or email

Road works

Road re-construction works on Gillies Street (between Majorca Road and Fuller Street) and Rogers Street (between Gillies Street and Railway Street) in Maryborough have commenced.

The project includes drainage, kerb and channel works and road pavement construction.

Both sections of road will be closed to all through traffic for the duration of the works, and detours and road closures will be in place.

The project will be undertaken by Doran Earthmoving and is expected to take approximately 10 weeks to complete.

The project has been funded by Council and the Federal Government’s Roads to Recovery program.
