In May 2018 Central Goldfields Shire Council endorsed the Draft Maryborough Municipal Olympic Complex Conservation Management Plan.(PDF, 11MB)
The Draft Plan, which was developed by a Heritage Victoria approved contractor, provides Council with a detailed assessment of the complex and recommendations for a staged plan for works that will ensure the restoration and conservation of the precinct in the future.
The Draft Plan outlines $1.765 million priority works which include maintenance works for the 50m pool, 25m pool, octagonal pool, entrance pavilion, concourses and plant room.
Other funding options are set to be explored by Council to cover comprehensive works, which are expected to cost $4.078 million.
Background information
Constructed in 1940 and listed on the Victorian Heritage Register, the precinct has and continues to play an integral role in the social fabric of our community.
Through Heritage Victoria’s Living Heritage Program, Central Goldfields Shire Council received a grant of $35,000. This enabled Council to prepare a Conversation Management Plan (CMP) and a Structural Condition Assessment (SCA) to guide essential conservation works at the Maryborough Municipal Olympic Swimming Complex.
