Council Elections

Council Elections

Central Goldfields Shire Council is currently administrated by three State Government appointed administrators. At the expiration of their term in 2020, Council is expected to return to representatives elected from the community.

Local Government elections are held across Victoria, at a common time, every four years. The next elections are due in November 2020.

Advertisements will appear in local papers approximately two months before election day requesting nominations from community members to stand for election to the next four-year Council term. Council elections have historically been by postal ballot.

The Mayor of Central Goldfields Shire Council is elected by the elected Councillors. They may be elected Mayor for one or two years.

Election Campaign Donation Returns

An election campaign donation return is a record of significant gifts received by election candidates for use in the election campaigns. These returns ensure public transparency about the level of financial and in-kind support give to by individuals and organisations during elections.

Council is required under legislation to keep of summary of election campaign donation returns on its website until two months before the next general election.

Below is a summary of campaign donation returns received from candidates in the Central Goldfields Shire Council Elections 2016 and the Flynn Ward By Election 2013, which includes the name of the candidate, the name of each person, if any, who made a gift to the candidate and the total value of the gift received from that person.

Copies of completed returns are available for inspection during business hours at Council's Customer Service Centre, 12-22 Nolan Street Maryborough.
