Council Meeting

The June Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday, 22 August, at 6 pm. The agenda is available to view at www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/councilmeetings

The meeting will be held in person at the Community Hub in Maryborough and is open to the community to attend. It will also be live-streamed to Council’s Facebook page, and a video will be available at the above web address following the meeting.

Flood works update

Two packages of works to restore our road network following the October 2022 floods are now well underway.

Works are being delivered by local contractor Shay Excavations and our Operations team.

Flood debris removal works have also begun.

To find out more about the process, as well as the list of roads that are being upgraded, visit www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/floodrecoveryworks

IMMUNISATION SESSIONS

Our Immunisation Team are running free immunisation sessions in Talbot and Dunolly from now until November.

The sessions are free for all vaccinations on the National Immunisation Programs and for all ages.

The sessions aim to reach those who may not regularly travel to Maryborough and to ensure vaccinations are readily available for everyone.

For more info, visit www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/immunisation

Changes to parking in Maryborough CBD

In recent times our local business community and service providers have been calling on us to enforce parking restrictions in Maryborough’s CBD.

They’ve seen an increasing number of motorists parking in the CBD precinct all day, which has meant potential customers haven’t been able to access time-limited car parking spaces when shopping or accessing services.

From Monday, 7 August, Council’s Local Laws team will begin patrolling the Maryborough CBD.

Throughout August, they’ll be issuing warnings to motorists who overstay in time-designated spaces and who use disabled bays when not permitted to do so. From early September, fines will be issued for those not complying with restrictions.

This approach complements the Maryborough Police, who have recently been enforcing parking in loading zones and no standing areas.

We urge community members to support these changes, which will increase the turnover of car parking spaces and better support our local business community.

WASTE COLLECTION CALENDAR

Due to an error in printing, the dates displayed on the Waste Collection Calendar have the incorrect colour coding from July to September.

There is no change to the current fortnightly garbage or recycling collection pattern.

Green waste dates, as indicated, are correct.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Public Transport Users: We want to hear from you

The Youth Council is asking community members of all ages to share their stories and experiences of public transport to show the need for more public transport options via a campaign.

Even if you don’t take public transport yourself, your opinion is important to us.

You can complete the survey online here: www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/transportsurvey

WHAT’S ON

Christopher Orr Exhibition

See the amazing detail of Christopher’s artworks in his exhibition ‘Hidden In Plain Sight’ now showing at the Central Goldfields Art Gallery until 29 October.

Christopher Orr portrays Maryborough icons in a way not normally seen. Chris feels inspired to paint that ‘play of light’ to capture that moment – the unseen, ineffable elements of memory, emotion, association, and the passage of time.

The official exhibition opening is at 2 pm Saturday, 26 August. Please RSVP to attend by booking a ticket online at https://bit.ly/3sbOlEY or call 03 54616600 or email cgsc.art@cgoldshire.vic.gov.au

Audit and Risk Committee - Expressions of Interest

We are seeking expressions of interest for an independent vacancy on its Audit and Risk Committee from suitably qualified people with broad overall experience and a knowledge base with governance and financial experience.

For more information, contact Jane Still, Manager Governance Property and Risk on 0499 865 216. Expressions of Interest close on Friday, 19 August 2023.

OPPORTUNITY FOR LOCAL TRADESPEOPLE

We maintain hundreds of assets including town halls, buildings, kindergartens, senior citizens, sporting facilities, and playgrounds, just to name a few.

We can’t maintain them on our own, which is why we call on tradespeople for minor projects and maintenance work throughout the year.

We’re currently creating a Trade Services Panel – a list of tradespeople that we can call on to support us with this work.

To keep our money local, we’re keen to see as many local trades on this list as possible – services we are looking for include rubbish bin cleaning, appliance repairs, window furnishings, carpentry, handyman, shade, builders, pest control, welding, tiling, paving, flooring, cabinet makers, painting, plastering, glazing, bricklaying, fencing, asbestos removal, test and tagging, removalists and locksmiths.

We encourage you to register with us. To find out more, visit www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/tenders or contact Council’s Procurement team on 5461 0610.
