COUNCIL CHANGES TO AGED CARE

Following changes to the Commonwealth funding model, and after extensive and sensitive community and staff consultation, this week’s meeting of Council made the difficult decision to transition away from direct Aged Care service delivery from 1 March 2024.

For now, all current services will remain business as usual and clients will continue to receive the services they have been assessed for. Council will continue to inform all clients, staff and the broader community as the new models of care emerge.

The new Commonwealth Government Support at Home (SAH) program will integrate a broad range of Aged Care programs, offering a diversity of services local government cannot sustainably provide. These changes are part of the National Reform of Aged Care scheduled to commence from 1 July 2025.

A comprehensive Frequently Asked Questions is available on Council’s website.

Talbot Futures

The Draft Talbot Structure Plan will provide direction around population growth, future housing demand and areas for infill and greenfield development for Talbot upon implementing a reticulated sewerage scheme for the township.

As part of this conversation, we hosted two 'Drop-In’ question and answer sessions during July at the Talbot ANA Hall.

Thank you to everyone who attended and took the time to learn more about the project and provide input.

Some key themes of the feedback so far include:

  • Residents value providing additional services and amenities for people experiencing homelessness or houselessness.

  • Residents value providing signage for historical sites in English and Dja Dja Wurrung.

  • Residents value the addition of composting septic systems alongside the sewage system upgrade.

After the consultation, all feedback will be considered before an updated version of the Structure Plan goes to Council for adoption.

Community Satisfaction Survey

Interviewing for Council’s annual Community Satisfaction Survey has now commenced.

Throughout August and September, your household might receive a call from National Field Service – who will ask you a range of questions about the different services Council provides.

The information you provide will help us to identify ways to provide improvement or more effective service delivery to our residents.

Your details and individual responses are confidential, and we appreciate your valuable feedback.

ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Help shape the Shire's play spaces

Play spaces are more than just equipment; they are the areas we splash in, trees we sit under, fields we roll down and flower beds we hide behind.

We want families, carers, children and young people of all cultures, identities and abilities to use and enjoy the play spaces in our Shire.

Through our Places for Play Strategy, we are looking to ensure they continue to meet the changing needs of our community both now and into the future.

This initial community engagement aims to understand what playspace locations are being used, what design elements (equipment, trees etc.) are missing, and what new playspace areas or designs the community wishes to have.
