Council welcomes twelve new citizens

We welcomed twelve new citizens as part of a Citizenship Ceremony held on Thursday in Maryborough.

The twelve residents from Sweden, the United Kingdom, India, the Philippines and Vietnam became Australian citizens at the ceremony.

Congratulations to our newest residents!

Permits to Burn

Given it is a perfect time to get into the garden, rake up the leaves and mow lawns, we’ve noticed an increase in requests for permits to burn.

A $28 fee applies to a permit to burn. Why? This is to discourage burning in residential areas due to multiple complaints from residents regarding smell, smoke and being environmentally hazardous.

Alternative options include:

- Signing up for our optional green waste collection. This service is available to residents living in residential areas for $89 per year with collection twice a month. To find out more and to sign up visit
www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/greenwasteservice

- Later in the year, to support residents to clean up before the fire season, we also offer a week of free green waste disposal at our transfer stations.

- Green waste can also be disposed of at our Transfer Stations at anytime during the year for a fee.

ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Public Transport Users: We want to hear from you

Public transport is a vital service to support community members who can't drive themselves. It connects us to work, school, shops, services, friends, and family. This is especially true for young people who can't get a driver's license until they are 17.

The Youth Council is asking community members of all ages to share their stories and experiences of public transport to show the need for more public transport options via a campaign.

Even if you don’t take public transport yourself, your opinion is important to us.

You can complete the survey online here: www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/transportsurvey

Volunteering in the Central Goldfields

We want to know your thoughts on volunteering via our survey.

Even if you don’t volunteer yourself, your opinion is important to us.

You can complete the survey online here: www.engage.cgoldshire.vic.gov.au/volunteering

Or collect a hard copy from Council’s Customer Service Centre, 22 Nolan Street, Maryborough Library and Maryborough Community House.

The survey is anonymous and open until Monday, 31 July.
