SEPTEMBER COUNCIL MEETING
At this week’s September Council Meeting (Tuesday 26 September) a number of important decisions were made.
19 community grants were approved for community groups and events over the coming year. To see the full list of grant recipients visit: www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/comu-grants2023
At the Meeting of Council earlier this week, a proposal to name an open space in Whirrakee Rise was approved.
The proposal is to name an open space at the Quinn Reserve, Cyril and Myra Martin Reserve.
The highly respected couple made substantial contributions to Maryborough and were instrumental in the construction of buildings and many other charities and community supports through their fundraising efforts, committee memberships and volunteer work.
Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre
At a Meeting of Council this week a $550,000 contract to upgrade the 25-metre indoor pool at the Maryborough Sports and Leisure Centre was awarded to On Time Developments.
The pool tiles are almost 25 years old and are at the end of their life – the upgrade will see the pool tiles in the 25-metre pool and the surrounding pool concourse removed and replaced.
The project will improve user experience and safety and ensure the pool is operational for many years to come.
The project is funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program. To meet the government requirements for funding, Council is required to complete the project by June 2024.
To enable the project to be carried out, the pool hall will need to be closed for approximately 10 weeks from March to May 2024.
The March start date allows the pool to remain open for as long as possible for summer – whilst also allowing enough time for the project to be completed by the funding deadline.
Please note Council’s Customer Service Centre, VicRoads, Maryborough Regional Library, Goldfields Family Centre and the Depot and Pound are closed Friday 29 September for the Grand Final Public Holiday.
Waste Transfer Stations operate normally, with Carisbrook open from 10am to 4.30pm on Friday. Other facilities at Talbot, Dunolly and Bealiba will also operate normally over the long weekend from 9am to 1pm on Saturday and Sunday.
The Central Goldfields Visitor Information Centre will remain open from 9am to 5pm.
The Central Goldfields Shire after-hours service will operate as normal.
